A few weeks ago I was approached by Reach Life, a division of Reach Records, to head up a small team of photographers to cover their Unashamed Conference. This conference featured talks by Francis Chan, John Onwuchekwa, Lecrae, and D.A. Horton. In addition each day ended with a phenomenal concert by the artists of Reach Records and other Christian hip-hop labels including artists Lecrae, Trip Lee, Andy Mineo, KB, Derek Minor, Flame, Tedashii, and many others. I had a fantastic team of photographers--Rikki Ellis, Regina Lowery, Shelbie Minear, and Same Agbasi, who was originally an attendee of the conference but stepped up and joined the photography team. Scheduling photo coverage of all the different events during the conference was, at first, a huge challenge, but my team really took initiative. I hardly had to tell them what needed to be covered.
This was the first year that the Reach has put on this conference, but I can't say enough for the professionalism of the staff and volunteers. The quality of the conference itself blew me away. I highly recommend going next year, and I wouldn't be surprised if the attendance is 10x greater than this year.
Lastly, I need to give a shout-out to Kyle Dettman, video director at Reach Records, who recommended me for this job, and to Reach Life for trusting me with this project. They were a fabulous team to work with.
